Shut it down

2016-04-08 Hygiene

Peace

Computers are complicated. There is a lot of stuff on them. There are regular updates to apps, operating systems, drivers and data. And every time something breaks (which it will do) it will be because of a change somewhere. And there is no better (worse) time to break than when booting up. Reboot often. It makes problem diagnosis easier. Get into the habit of closing your browser and its tabs, all the software and just cycling the power; not sleep; not hibernate — shut it down. It might make things a teeny bit faster too. Once every few days is fine — although why not just get into the habit of shutting down at night? It saves power and can bring a nice disconnected feeling. At least for the 15 seconds before you pick up your phone and stare at it until your eyes fall out.
